So on the never ending upgrade treadmill, I upgraded to DNN 5.2.0 a couple of weeks ago. This now moves us away from .Net v2 and SQL 2000, and probably leaves behind the other site I vaguely support (www.sirthomasblackwells.co.uk) since they are on SQL2K. The upgrade to 5.2.0 brought some problems, since web.config wasn’t correctly update to reflect the new caching providers. A bit of research tho...
I’ve done a little work on the site in the last week or so, after a long period of relative inactivity. This is primarily around making joining the club more visible and easy to do. So the Store is now visible in the Join menu, allowing people to register on the site whilst going through the process of paying for membership. This process also automatically gives new members access to the members a...
Well the time had come at last to make the leap to DotNetNuke 5. I’d been sitting and watching the bugs on Gemini until there didn’t seem to be any critical ones left over. This seems to have happened (near enough) with 5.1.2. DNN 5 has also impacted the Events module, with the team having to work around a few bugs in the early versions of DNN 5. So I’ve made the leap of faith and hope there aren...
Well I’ve taken the plunge and updated the site from Events version 4.0.3 to Events 5.0.0. This is a really major leap in the module, though to be honest, the users of the website will not notice anything substantial. I guess the biggest visible change is the addition of the icon bar. Instead of having to scroll all the way to the bottom of the page to get to these links, they now appear at top r...
Well what has been going on recently on the website? Minor changes really, since my major focus has been on finalising the Events module for its next release. In any case, here’s a summary of what’s happened:- Upgrades to the main DotNetNuke framework to version 4.9.2. DNN is now in two version – Professional edition, which is paid for and comes with committed support. Community edition, which...
I have just updated the site to version 4.9.0 of the DNN framework. Downtime was about 2 minutes. This update is mostly a bug fix release, and also patches a number security issues.
Having created a report that generates a What's New type display as detailed in my previous post, I wanted to create an RSS feed with pretty much the same content, because currently I use about 6 different feeds off the site, and it is a pain monitoring them all. I couldn't find a module that would generate an RSS feed based on a specific query, and whilst it is on the reports module roadmap, it's...
I spotted a bug in metaPost (I use Windows Live Writer for creating this blog, and it posts via metaPost into Ventrian NewsArcticles, which is what you see here), where when I did an update to a post, it created a new page in the post, rather than update the existing one. Don Worthley at IT Crossing has once again come up with the fix while I slept, ready to be tested. So here we go.... Yep, it wo...
I decided it was about time I created some sort of consolidated What's New for the members. I haven't done this for all users, because I'm using the reports module, and the query is getting long enough as it is. Besides most of the new information is in the members area anyway, but it could be used for all users depending on yoru security requirements. To the left is what it looks like in the end....
One of the negatives of the recent update of the the website theme, was the removal of the easy access buttons along the top of the page. So after many complaints (well one actually), I've put them back. A neat thing about these buttons is that they are set up to be different when logged in or not, so that members of the club get easy access to the most frequently used areas of the site that are s...
