Club Dives

We’ve been having fun with the June 4/5th club OW dive! We had a last minute opportunity to move from a Rib-dive to a Hard Boat dive. Unfortunately the rush of divers signing up was deafeningly quiet Sad smile As the hard boat would have been a lot more expensive to the club we decided to go back to plan A to reduce our liability. Apologies for the confusion. We are now confirmed again with Fathom and Blues and it should still be a great weekend’s diving around Portland so please sign up asap.

We have completed the first club sea dives of 2011 from Brighton. Fantastic weather on the surface but a bit plankton-affected beneath. Check out the dive report by Roger on the website in the news section.

Upcoming dives at Poole and Lundy are all fully booked – have fun you folks…

Next available dives are:

Weymouth/Portland OW June 4/5th

Eastbourne AOW+ June 25/26th (4-wreck weekend)

Portsmouth OW/AOW July 16/17

Swanage Social Weekend/Summer BBQ/Diving! – whichever angle you give it, the Swanage weekend on June 30th should be a cracker! This is the first time the club as run a dive weekend combined with a social event so please give this your suport.

As usual, more details and how to book are on the dive calendar .

If you can help organise a dive weekend, why not contact the club (>18m) or orientation (<18m) dive organiser? They can give lots of guidance and will really appreciate the support!

Social And Club Nights

April saw the official opening of DiveStyle’s new premises near Arbourfield with Monty Halls doing the honours with great weather (is this going to be a trend?), a popular BBQ and over 150 people attending. See the update below for new contact information and other news.

Next Meeting and Speaker Schedule

Next meeting Weds May 4th will now be the presentation of the Photo Competition trophies – if you were one of the winners please be there to collect the ‘crown jewels’ of club trophies. If you didn’t win, come down and congratulate the winners and chat with other members to see what’s going on as the dive season really kicks off in the UK.

The eagle eyed will spot that this means a change to the speaker program. We now have the following dates and speakers confirmed:

Speaker Schedule

June: Discussion on side mounting cylinders instead of on your back – not just for techies this one!

July:   Nigel Wade talking about U/W photography

See the Social Calendar for more information. If you have any ideas of topics for club nights, have access to speakers or could present on a topic yourself, please contact the chairman.

Update from DiveStyle

The new dive centre is now officially open and the facilities are really fantastic, so if you haven’t checked them out, get down there!

Unit A, Bridge Farm,
Reading Road,
Arborfield,
Berkshire,
RG2 9HT

Please note that a new telephone number will be activated within the next 2 weeks: 01189 761729. The old number will still work but will eventually be disconnected

Divestyle will also be offering the new side mount courses within the next month supported by the Hollis side mount system. This course is a PADI recognised course and is available to open water and advanced divers.

And finally…

Fancy a dive holiday in Malta?

Tim Burge (club member) is arranging a dive trip to Malta the week of June 11 - 18th. A number of club members are already committed. The aim is to have a technical dive group (60m/Trimix) and a recreational dive group who will meet up each evening to swap stories of derring do! The dives in the first part of the week will be split and the latter ones combined. If you are interested please contact publicity@thedivingclub.co.uk asap.
