Welcome to the February newsletter.

Hi all

Now that Christmas is well behind us it is time to look ahead to the forthcoming events and diving calendar. With those in mind, there are two important things I need to ask of you all before the next meeting. We need your entries for the Photo competition and your commitment to some of the planned dives in order to keep them on the schedule. Details below…

Next Club Meeting, Photo Competition.

Weds 1st February at the Maiden Over. Buffet provided.

We need your entries for next week's Photo Competition. You will have seen Roger's email with details of how to enter and I've repeated them at the end of this newsletter. The key thing is to dig out you best photos from last year and send them in now so they can be assembled for the competition.

2012 Dive Schedule

Those of you at the last meeting will know that some of the dives on the calendar are subject to us having a minimum commitment. This means paid deposits. If you are interested in these dives please contact Andrew as dive organiser and arrange your deposit ASAP and no later than the February club night. These dive places can only be held until then, after which they will be handed back to the skippers unless we have enough commitment.

Plymouth May 5/6/7 (min commitment is 2 days).

This weekend is an brilliant opportunity for divers looking to gain more experience, with dives on Sat and Sun suitable for both OW and AOW depths - so you can dive to a depth your comfortable with. Also perfect for Nitrox. Dives will include the Scylla warship and James Eagan Lane WWII liberty ship (see video), both excellent and popular wrecks. We're also hoping to do the tour of the  protected 17th century wreck of the Coronation on the Sunday as a second dive. Monday is AOW only with a more conventional dive straight to the seabed/wreck.

Accommodation is available right at the water's edge at the Mount Batten centre (cheap and cheerful) or the Mount Batten hotel.

Portsmouth June 3

This one-day OW dive is one we tried last year but were blown out by strong winds. Tanks & Bulldozers - Sitting on the sea bed these are believed to have been lost overboard on the way for use in the Normandy D-Day landings. Portsmouth is one of the closest and easiest to get to sites from Reading so makes an easy day trip.

Please contact Andrew no later than the club night (Feb 1st) to confirm your place.

See the links for the above and more on the dive calendar.

And finally…

Here is the photo competition entry info:
